We invite you to watch this Netflix series based on 2011 book by Jessica Harris titled, High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America. You can currently find the series on the streaming services Netflix and Prime.
African Americans have played an integral role in shaping every aspect of American culture. High on the Hog is a Netflix docuseries showcasing the travels of chef and writer Stephen Satterfield as he traces the influence of African American food culture from Africa to the U.S. He demonstrates how the foundation of American cooking is shaped by the agricultural and culinary labor of African people and their descendants.
