A Jungian Approach to Group Psychotherapy
Justin Hecht, PhD, CGP
This workshop will approach group from a Jungian perspective. Dr. Hecht combines a Jungian Approach and the work of Stewart Aledort in group process.The leader will use a symbolic approach to facilitate appreciation of the dynamic unconscious and the influence of archetypes. We will attend to paradox, transference, individuation, and the problem of the opposites. This workshop will benefit clinical practitioners of group psychotherapy by introducing them with Jungian approaches to group psychotherapy. There will be a demo group, a short didactic presentation and discussion.
Bio: Justin Hecht grew up in Southern California and attended Harvard University, where he studied Government and Fine Arts.
He earned an MBA at the Wharton School, and had a career in advertising and marketing consulting. As the AIDS crisis began to affect his friends, he sought a more meaningful career and returned to school to earn a master’s and a Ph.D. in psychology at Columbia and Boston University.
Justin is on the faculty of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Medical School, where he supervises psychiatry residents and teaches a seminar on Jung. An certified analyst and member of the C.G. Jung institute of San Francisco, he is also a Board member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) and is interested in combining Jungian perspectives and group psychotherapy.
He has lived in San Francisco with his partner Erik since 1996. He has a seven year old daughter, Emma, and Erik and Justin take pride in their two big poodles, Rasmus and Lili.
