Exploring Mortality: How Therapists (and their groups) Interact with Death - Joe Hovey, LCSW

Event Description:

Exploring Mortality: How Therapists (and their groups) Interact with Death

Joe Hovey, LCSW

Therapists, like our patients, all must confront the realities of mortality one way or another. Building on the work of a master’s thesis on the subject, this presentation will cover the various ways we can ethically and effectively care for patients (and each other), in the face of illness, aging, and the risk of unexpected loss. Groups provide a unique holding space to explore the complex feelings and fears around death and loss; in this way we will use an experiential process group to explore the topic together, perhaps discovering energy and understanding to more fully live and work in the present.
