Therapist as Person: Managing Powerful Life Experiences in Our Group Work - Robin Good, PhD, CGP, FAGPA
Event Description:This workshop begins with a synopsis of the particular challenges group therapists face managing their personal exposure and vulnerability during traumas, as well as the needs and reactions of the group.
Didactic issues will include: What is profoundly different between individual and group work in this context? What are some of the issues to stay tuned to for the group therapist? Which techniques and skills do we summon during these hard times? How do we protect/manage both ourselves and the group, without sacrificing learning?
I will share a personal group scenario. It will be followed by an experiential process focusing on the feelings and struggles engendered in each of us when our personal lives/crises penetrate our work.
Bio:
Robin Good, Ph.D., CGP, FAGPA is Co-Director of the EGPS One-Year Group Psychotherapy Training Program, and Faculty since 1989. Dr. Good is a graduate of NYU’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. She supervises individual and group psychotherapy privately and as a Clinical Associate at City University’s Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. She has offices in NYC and Westchester, working with individuals, couples and groups. Group psychotherapy is her passion and she has spent her career involved in EGPS and AGPA.
