Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Group Analysis - Claudia Arlo, LCSW-R, CASAC, CGP, FAGPA
Event Description:Difficult to treat patients are common in our practices, whether we work in clinics or in private practice.
Many of these complicated individuals have a history of multiple trauma, and/or are the result of a "bad fit" during their upbringing and been subjected to significant invalidation. Integrating tools from different perspectives has been useful in these situations, and it is not new in our field as we will briefly comment. This workshop will explore the value of integrating aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with Modern Group Analysis (MGA).
A brief description of DBT and MGA will be offered to highlight common, complementary aspects and differences followed by processing and group discussion drawn from the presenter and attendees’ clinical practices.
Bio: Claudia Arlo, LCSW-R, CASAC, CGP, FAGPA is a psychotherapist in private practice and at Mt Sinai with over 20 years of experience. She is a Group Analyst and DBT trained therapist with an interest in Integrative Therapy. She is on Faculty at Fordham University, the EGPS' Training Program and NYU. She has offered workshops and trainings nationally and internationally on topics related to Integrative treatment, program design, addiction treatment and integrative group psychotherapy (IGP) for individuals with emotion regulation disorders (i.e., borderline personality disorder and addiction). She has published on this topic in the International Journal of Group Psychotherapy.
