DESCRIPTION:The EGPS Work Group for Racial Equity (WG4RE) invites you to join us for a year-end social evening on Friday\, July 24 and a kickoff social evening on Friday\, September 18. \nBoth evenings\, we will meet in the lobby of the Studio Museum in Harlem (144 West 125th St between Adam Clayton Powell and Lenox Avenues) at 5:30pm. We will walk through the recently\, beautifully renovated exhibit spaces and then continue the party at a nearby restaurant. \nAll are welcome! No prior participation in WG4RE events necessary. In fact\, please invite your non-EGPS friends. DESCRIPTION:A conversation with GROUP authors Keith Fadelici\, LCSW\, CGP & John Lutz\, Ph.D \nFree ZOOM event\nHosted by the GROUP Journal Committee \nFocusing on their article in GROUP (Volume 49\, Number 4\, Winter 2025): \nTaking Off Our Shoes: Radical Empathy as an Intentional Strategy in Group Therapy \nArticle Abstract: \nEmpathy is essential to the successful practice of group therapy and is part of an intentional process involving concrete strategies such as suspension of judgment\, responsiveness\, receptivity\, vulnerability\, attentive listening\, and openness to other perspectives. In contrast to the traditional medical model employing objectivity and a detached rational assessment\, it entails entering the world of the other\, nonjudgmental acceptance\, and an authentic presentation of identity. These characteristics allow for the transformative practice of radical empathy in the psychotherapeutic group process. Radical empathy employs emotion\, intellect\, and imagination in a holistic process of engagement that allows the group leader to assess group connections as they form and cultivate real and lasting change in the group leader and clients alike. \nThis is a free event open to all EGPS members and non-members. \nJoin us!
