“What the Hell is Going On??” - PART II - A Socio-Psycho-Politico-Group Analysis of Our Political Situation

Event Description:

EGPS Manhattan Professional Discussion Group is sponsoring another community meeting to explore from a group perspective the turbulent political, social and therapeutic issues we face in the aftermath of the presidential election. Since the election, there has been more apprehension concerning the stability of the country. Trump’s dissenters feel threatened by his erratic personality, his combative governing approach and his executive decisions and policies. They feel democracy is threatened and civil rights are at stake.  Some dissenters feel that Trump's governing behavior is so toxic to the democratic process that to normalize it as acceptable politics is dangerous to the country. Some of Trump supporters are pleased with his performance. Other supporters feel queasy by his personality and style, but are also anxious and angry that Trump is not getting a fair chance. What does this mean for our clinical practice? What does this mean for our lives? This will be a town hall group format where we can learn from our differences and our differing perspectives. Ronnie Levine, Ph.D. ABPP, FAGPA CGP  will chair the meeting, joined by co-chairs Wayne Ayers, PH.D. and Teresa Solomita.LCSW-R , NCPsyA  Please join us and share your thoughts!!

National Anxiety and The Therapist’s Dilemmas

This evening  we will explore such topics as:

National Anxiety  – What are the current social, political, psychological, and emotional issues generating the current states of anxiety within the identity subgroups and the national group?

The Therapist’s Dilemmas – Therapists are struggling as much as their patients are with the onslaught of daily political attacks on thinking and emotional equilibrium. What are the implications of the current socio-political environment in the treatment room and how does our clinical work proceed under these conditions?
