The Unobtrusive Relational Group Analyst - Robert Grossmark, PhD, ABPP

Event Description:

Dr. Robert Grossmark will introduce a register for working with groups and individuals that involves a present and engaged group analyst who is unobtrusive to the unfolding of the patient’s and group’s inner worlds and yet-to-be-known dynamics. Emerging group enactments are regarded as unconscious co-narrations and are welcomed and engaged with rather than interrupted and analyzed before their full expression. Rather than seeking to bring patients into greater dialogic relatedness the group analyst companions the group in the flow of enactive engagement and into the damaged and constrained landscapes of the group members’ inner worlds of trauma and neglect. Being known by the group and companioned in these areas of pain, shame and fragmentation is the foundation on which group and individual transformation and healing rests.

Dr. Grossmark will outline this approach and will describe vivid examples drawn form his work with groups and will conduct a demonstration group to illustrate emergent enactments and enactive co-narration in the group.
